  2. Zonta International &United Nations Partnerships • Since 1946 Zonta has partnered with the United Nations to improve the Status of Women • Zontians have donated to projects benefiting more than 2 million women from 37 different countries

  3. The Status of Women World wide • 1:3 women are affected by violence • Gender based violence begins early frequently girls are <16 years old • 64 million girls are child brides, • 140 million women have undergone genital mutilation • 66 million girls are not in schools Working with young people to break stereotyping and preventing violence is a smart move.

  5. Grant-making Policy • United Nations suggests the programs • Zonta evaluates projects • Zonta funds the projects. • UN agency administers the project with a transparent allocated 8-10 % administrative cost.

  8. UN Women Voices Against Violence Funding $986,000 . Objective: • To prevent and reduce gender discrimination and violence against women and girls. To be implemented through the Girl Guide and Scout movement. (WAGGGS) • UN Women will provide opportunities for Zontians to participate as speakers and engage with youth leaders. • Zonta members can advocate for the use of the curriculum within their own areas. • An estimated 5 million children and young people will take part in the curriculum by 2020

UNFPA: Delaying Early Marriage in NigerFUNDING US $1,000,000 2014-2016 Objective: To reduce early marriage and early pregnancy in a critical mass of communities and departments in the 4 regions of Niger. Outcomes: 25,000 adolescent girls will be reached over 2 yrs with 400,000 members of their community benefitting from increased awareness.

UNICEF: HIV Free generation in RwandaFunding US $600,000 2014-2016 Objectives: To have a nation free of HIV AIDS and new HIV infection amongst children, adolescents women and families: to support the national strategy for one stop centres and to invest in community based prevention of violence against women and children Expected Outcomes: Build an HIV free generation and empower women and girls and claim their right to safety and dignity

UNFPA: Eliminating Obstetric Fistula in Liberia Funding $600,000 US • Objective: To contribute to the elimination of obstetric and traumatic fistula and the reduction of maternal morbidity and sexual violence against the women in Liberia. • Expected Outcomes: To improve the health and reintegrate women back into society

  13. Fistula Program in Liberia This project is currently on hold due to the Ebola Epidemic.

  14. UNTFP: Gender Responsive Schools In Vietnam Funding US $644,000 Objective: To create a school environment for adolescent girls and boys across Hanoi that is free from gender-based violence. Expected Outcomes: Schools in Hanoi will have increased capacity to promote gender equal norms, and prevent and respond to gender based violence in and around schools.
