Major Concepts: A Finding Sacred Time and Space Prayer is a whole hearted faith response to God, who loves us without conditions and is with us in every moment of our life. All living can be praying. Intentional and conscious moments give substance to prayer as a wholehearted faith response to God moments .
Finding Sacred Time and Space • Reminded of God’s Presence • A time and a place for Prayer: We need actual time and physical space in which to pray. • We also need “inner space” or the space within our consciousness that makes room for God.How can we do this? >We need silence. It can be peaceful and disturbing.
Concept B. Paths to Intimacy with God • 3 traditional ways to get closer to God: • Vocal prayer> often conversational and spontaneous • Meditation> quiets the mind and body to allow us to experience God’s presence. • Contemplation> is”being with”God without saying or doing anything.We are present to God and focused.
Concept C. Praying “All Ways” • All our senses and abilities can be involved in prayer. • Imagination>we try to visualize what we are reading in Scripture.( like in class meditations) • Journal writing> allowing our thoughts to rise to the surface where we can reflect on them. • With our whole body>posture (don’t put your head down), a trip to a holy place called a pilgrimage.Walking a maze.
Concept D.Being rooted and uprooted by Prayer • Prayer roots us more firmly in God’s presence • It gives us a deeper sense of the sacredness of creation. • Prayer also UPROOTS us by calling us to change our life and take the risk to love.
