  1. Fifth and Eighth Grade Science Toolboxes Designed by Michigan teachers for Michigan students

  2. Toolbox Overview • Developed for the 5th and 8th Grade Science MEAP • Used to help teachers help students perform more successfully on the MEAP Science Assessment • Used to help teachers implement effective practices in Science Instruction

  3. Overview • All science toolboxes focus on benchmarks for Constructing New Scientific Knowledge and Reflecting on Scientific Knowledge • Students are given many opportunities to analyze data, make and interpret graphs, draw conclusions, prepare summaries of results, and use evidence to support claims

  4. When to Use • Each toolbox contains about 30 lessons • Pre-test to determine which lessons to use during the Fall review • Can begin the toolbox review at the end of the fourth and seventh grades

  5. Science Toolbox Contains • Pre-Assessment Guide • Life Science Toolbox • Physical Science Toolbox • Earth Science Toolbox • Videos • Some experiments were videotaped to help students better understand the concept and the context of the investigation

  6. Pre-Assessment Guide • Released Items from previous year’s MEAP • Use as a practice test for students • Use as a tool for teachers to decide which toolbox lessons should be used for review • Power Point with Questions • Use to review test-taking strategies and questions with students • Bubble Type Answer Sheet • Analysis Grid • Quickly find out students’ strengths and weaknesses

  7. Return Bubble Answer Sheet

  8. Return Analysis Grid
