Where is the Piedmont of Georgia? • The Piedmont is next to the mountains. • Piedmont means “foot hills.” • This part of the state is lower than the mountains. • There are rough hills in the north and rolling hills toward the south. • It extends from the mountain area to the fall line. • The Piedmont is the largest region, covering one-third of the state.   3. Characteristics of Georgia’s Piedmont The Flint River is in the Piedmont. Many freshwater mussels and fish live in the Flint River.

  4. Characteristics of Georgia’s Piedmont Today, forests of oak, hickory, and pine trees cover much of the Piedmont. However, deforestation has taken place to build homes and businesses for humans. The Piedmont is the most human populated area in Georgia.

  5. Characteristics of Georgia’s Piedmont Rock outcrops are also found in the Piedmont. Stone Mountain is the largest rock outcrop in the world. Lichens and mosses live on rock outcrops. Fairy shrimp live in pools of rainwater.
