SKULL SUTURE TECHNIQUE • Technique Developed by: Nancy Weber, RN, CCA
Certification Procedures • Qualifying for a certification? • An exam will be emailed to you for both the NAT and the SST after you send in your consent form copies. You can email back your responses for the exam. • You received 6 consent forms along with a handbook. Every partner you work with in the class can fill out your consent form. You need to send in a copy of the 6 complete with comments. • Scan and email to Lightwingcenter@gmail.com the copies or mail to Lightwing Center, 27 Bald Nob Road, Denville, NJ 07834
SKULL SUTURE TECHNIQUE • Understand Purpose and Benefits of SST • Define General Physiology of Cranial Sutures • Give and Receive A SST • Identify Oil Choices and their Effects
SKULL SUTURES • Skull is made up of interlocking parts • The sutures are a type of fibrous joint • Only occurs in the skull (or "cranium") • They are bound together by Sharpey's fibres
Sharpey’s Fibres • Intensifies the continuity between the fibre and bone, and acts as a buffer medium against stress. • For the skull: main function of Sharpey's fibres is to bind the cranial bones in a firm but moveable manner; they are most numerous in areas where the bones are subjected to the greatest forces of separation
CRANIUM MOVEMENT • A tiny amount of movement is permitted at sutures • Contributes to the compliance and elasticity of the skull
CRANIUM MOVEMENT • There are junctions between adjacent bones of the skull • Many of these bones of the skull remain unfused at birth
CRANIUM MOVEMENT • The fusion of the skull's bones at birth is known as craniosynostosis • The term "fontanel" is used to describe the resulting "soft spots" • The relative positions of the bones continue to change during the life of the adult (though less rapidly)
SKULL SUTURES • Cranial bones and sacrum move in different directions when we inhale • And in opposite directions when we exhale
TMJ • Temporal Mandibular Joint • TMJ dysfunction found in • people & horses • Can YLEO’s help?
TMJ • Open a roll on of Stress Away, Deep Relief or Tranquil and add: • Frankicense Carterii • A few drops of trace minerals
TMJ • Gently apply with finger • or roll on of your choice • one drop on the TMJ area • You can add a drop • of liquid trace • minerals
CEREBRAL SPINAL FLUID • Cerebral Spinal Fluid runs like rivulets. • CSF is a delivery system of nutrients to every cell in the body. • As we age the sutures come closer together. • When sutures “lock” it can effect every part of the body.
CEREBRAL SPINAL FLUID • Purpose is to aid circulation of cerebrospinal fluid throughout central nervous system • Some suggest that CSF flows along cranial nerves and spinal nerve roots to allow it into lymphatic channels
TMJ • This is the site where the upper jaw (maxilla) and lower jaw (mandible) meet • It is one of the most frequently used joints of the body • Symptoms of TMJ disorders include headache, ear pain, dizziness, fullness or ringing in the ear and more.
BRAIN FUNCTIONS • Each part of the brain is responsible for functions • throughout our mind/body. • Placement of eo’s • is dependent on • what is needed.
FRONTAL LOBE • Brain Functions • Frontal Lobe – cognition & memory • associated with reasoning, planning, parts of speech, movement, emotions, and problem solving • YLEO’s Brain Power, Awaken
PARIETAL LOBE • Brain Functions • Parietal Lobe- associated with movement, orientation, recognition, perception of stimuli • YLEO’s Valor, Clarity
OCCIPITAL LOBE • Brain Functions • Occipital Lobe- associated with visual processing • Sandalwood, Frankincense
TEMPORAL LOBE • Brain Functions • Temporal Lobe- associated with perception and recognition of auditory stimuli, memory, • and speech. • Forgiveness, Transformation
CRANIAL MOVEMENT • The Osteopathic Cranial Academy sites: • “Cranial bone motion has been the most controversial phenomenon of the Primary Respiratory Mechanism (PRM), but there is ample evidence that the cranial bones do rhythmically move a small but definite amount.”
CRANIAL MOVEMENT • Cranial bone motion in animals is well documented: • Michael and Retzlaff demonstrated cranial bone (parietal) mobility in the squirrel monkey. • Heisey and Adams demonstrated cat parietal bone motion, in the range of 200-300 microns, induced by laboratory controlled changes in the Cerebro-Spinal Fluid (CSF) volume.
SS TECHNIQUE • Jaslow demonstrated in goat skulls (Capra hircus), that patent (non-fused) cranial sutures in adult animals may play a role in shock absorption and re-distribution of forces directed against the skull.
SS TECHNIQUE • Cranial bone motion in humans is also well documented: • Frymann developed a non-invasive apparatus for mechanically measuring the changes in cranial diameter. • On the basis of her extensive recordings, she was able to conclude that a rhythmic pattern of cranial bone mobility exists and occurs at a rate that is different than that of thoracic respiration. This work was later cited by NASA scientists.
SS TECHNIQUE • Entry into various areas of the brain with essential oils may benefit both people and animals. • Areas of the cranium that allow cerebral spinal fluid to flow are direct entries into the brain. • As we age the fissure get tighter with less cs fluid yet it is still a viable entry for eo's.
YLEO’s for SST • Many YLEO’s can be used for the SST. • One blend was created for assisting a child with autism. • The following is the Brain Blend used for this child.
BRAIN BLEND • Use either a 15 ml. empty bottle, put a roll on fitment or a 10 ml roll on. • 45 drops Sacred Frankincense • 45 drops Frankincense • 20 drops Trace Minerals (preferably Supreme Fulvic - online and at Lightwingcenter.org • 15 drops Helichrysum • 10 drops Cypress and Organic Coconut Oil fills the remainder
SS TECHNIQUE • Case study • S. B., age 13, severe autism, cerebral palsy and epilepsy • Unable to communicate, made sounds, did not look directly at anyone • Could not wheel his wheelchair • Frustrated quickly • Absent more often than attending each year in school
SS TECHNIQUE • Mother applying Raindrop, various YLEO’s and supplements for 2 years • No more seizures • More coordinated • Two sick days per year • Started Skull Suture Technique 1/2012 on a daily basis…
SS TECHNIQUE • 7/20/12: Visited S. B. and Mother • Makes eye contact with everyone consistently • Cognition improved • Span of attention improved • Muscle strength improved • Attempting to connect with everyone • Uses sign language more fluently • Wheeling his own wheel chair without help • Attempting to vocalize more
Tinnitus • Young man worked noisy tractor - partial hearing loss & high pitched ringing. • Age 63 suffered mild stroke. • CT scan and MRI showed damaged caudate & putamen. • Caused no more hearing loss and Tinnitus was gone.
Caudate Putamen
Ripple Effect • Neuroscience states there becomes a rippling effect across the brain. • Regions in brain fire their neurons in synch with the auditory misfirings. • Regions in front and back of brain involved. • Increased synchronized signals in the temporal cortex. • Auditory cortex sends branches to the brain stem
Nerve Blend • Possible mixture that may benefit the nerves of the brain. • Frankincense 20 drops • Sacred Frankincense 25 drops • Helichrysum 10 drops • Myrrh 5 drops • Juniper 10 drops • Sandalwood 15 drops • Laurus Nobilus 8 drops • Elemi 5 drops • Mix in a few drops of fulvic/humic acid & V 6 Mixing Oil
Helping Nerves • Nerve Blend Application • Behind ears on mastoid (especially for ear/hearing issues) • All nerve issues which include: • EVERYTHING!
SS TECHNIQUE • Entry into brain through sutures with EO’s • Use the EO’s that we know are helpful to the brain • Frankincense Carterii; increases activity across mid fissure, repairs DNA • Sacred Frankincense; increases activity across mid fissure, repairs DNA
SST Procedure • Practice with a partner • Bring out one Consent Form • Put your name as Practitioner and have the “client” read the form and fill out their information.
Points to Remember • Start with slow respiration • Relaxation • Hydrate
SST Procedure • 1. Apply Valor to hands and create balance by placing hands on shoulders or feet, as in NAT and Raindrop to assess when the body/brain is ready for oils. • 2. For general use, place roll on fitment on Frankincense Carterii and/or Sacred Frankincense gently roll over all the skull sutures except near the eyes. • Just one gentle slow sweep on the sutures.
SST Procedure 3. Use Stress Away then Tranquil For the TMJ joint you may want to add a few drops of a trace mineral. Remember do not place any pressure on the joint. Gently either hold for warmth with your finger or gently hold the roll on for a few sends on the TMJ Joint. 4. When all sutures are done it’s time to work the lymphs.
Lymph Movement • After relaxing a few minutes... • Stand up! • Up on your toes, then down on your toes and
Lymph Movement Now up on your heels
Lymphs Move EO’s Do this for 1 minute. Up on toes, down, up on heels, down. Relax. Repeat twice. The EO’s are happily moving through the lymphatic system.
