Team Shortnose Sucker:Project Auto-Shifting Bicycle • Advisors • Dr. Robert Albright • Dr. Peter Osterberg • Industry Representative • Mr. Walter Harrison • Team • Tim Slevin-Vegdahl (Fall Team Lead) • Joan Javier (Spring Team Lead) • Cyrus Medrano • Brendan Figuly University of Portland School of Engineering
Introduction • Design a device that will automatically shift the gears of a bicycle • Benefits new bicyclist and people who do not know how to properly shift gears on a bicycle University of Portland School of Engineering
Scorecard • Assemble and test magnetic sensor for functionality • Decide on method for “macro-model” (ABEL, BAT, or risk not making a “macro-model”) • Acquire the appropriate batteries that will power the stepper motor University of Portland School of Engineering
Additional Accomplishments • Had a great winter break! University of Portland School of Engineering
Plans • Mount magnetic sensor onto bicycle and finish testing functionality • Complete actuator functionality – triggers stepper motor to shift bicycle gears up and down • Debug “macro-model” and determine source of error(s) in the circuit University of Portland School of Engineering
Milestones University of Portland School of Engineering
Concerns/Issues • “Macro-model” – not converting to an ABEL file correctly • This indicates a possible error in our MOSIS chip University of Portland School of Engineering
Conclusions • Magnetic sensor produces a +5 v pulse needed for the MOSIS chip • Currently troubleshooting “macro-model” to determine source of the problem University of Portland School of Engineering
