  2. Competency Based Learning Modelfor Geometry • Our model provides both students and teachers with flexibility within the classroom while also maintaining the rigor and integrity of the courses. • The tenets of our model are as follows: • Target class size about 20 students • Have multiple teachers teaching the same course within a single class period • Provide more frequent assessments as well as timely feedback on assessments • Use data after each quiz and test to group students according to enrichment and remediation needs. It could be different each time. • The teaching emphasis will be focused on a deeper conceptual understanding to promote enduring mastery and varied instructional strategies to increase computational proficiency.

  3. Teaching Biography University of Georgia 1992Masters in Mathematics Education LaGrange College 1991B. S. in Mathematics Alpharetta High School – This is my 3rd Year teaching here and I love the students and parents here. Troup County Schools – 7 Years teaching experience at Callaway High School. I was named Teacher of the Year my 3rd year Teaching there. Gwinnett County Schools – 17 years teaching experience at Central Gwinnett and Duluth High School. I was named teacher of the year my 5th year at Duluth High School.

  4. Teaching Philosophy • Students must enjoy coming to class daily – Created through positive environment / positive student / teacher interaction. • It is my job to make break down the Geometry and make it as easy as possible for them. • High school prepares students for life . • Mathematics teaches logical thinking, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. • Think smarter, not harder. • Walk in Smart, Walk Out Smarter. • Smarty Pants • Bennevendo’sBrightess – Weekly Drawings

  5. Class Materials/Wish LIst • Compass (to practice Constructions) and Straight Edge • TI30XS Multiview calculator: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Texas-Instruments-TI-30XS-MultiView-Scientific-Calculator-16-Digit-LCD/7696395 • Tissues • White Copy Paper • Candy (Smarties, Packs of Sugarless Gum, Individual Wrapped Candy) • Hand Sanitizer • Expo Markers

  6. course Details • GSE Geometry standards: https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Frameworks/Geometry-Standards.pdf • Book is online. They log into Class Link • My website is the best place to look for summary of daily lessons / classwork / homework. • My site: http://bennevendo.onmycalendar.com/

  7. geOMETRY course Details Units: • Unit 1 – Transformations in the Coordinate plane • Unit 2 – Similarity, Congruence, and Proofs • Unit 3 – Right Triangle Trigonometry • Unit 4 – Circles and Volume • Unit 5 – Geometric and Algebraic Connections • Unit 6 – Applications of Probability

  8. Help Sessions and Recovery • RISE Session: Friday Mornings • Starts at 7:45 a.m. • Also, almost every other morning - Students just need to ask me if I have a meeting or conference. If I do, I won’t be able to help. Starts at 7:50 a.m. • I am also after school for help. 3:30 – 4:00 p.m. • RECOVERY – If a student has a 74% or below average after a major test and they made a 74% or below on that test, they qualify for recovery. Recovery forms are on my website. They are uploaded on the test dates.
