Strike is an episode wherein a company's work force engages in a work stoppage in an effort to elicit changes from its employer in such areas as: Management practices job security wages benefits
Strike action: also known as a walkout, a work stoppage caused by the mass refusal of employees to perform work. Culture strikes: refusal of artists or art institutions to respectively produce and show art General strike: strike action by a critical mass of the labour force in a city, region or country.
Hunger strike: participants fast as an act of political protest, or to provoke feelings of guilt in others Rent strikes: when a group of tenants agrees to refuse to pay rent until a specific list of demands is met by the landlord Student strike: occurs when students enrolled at a teaching institution such as a school, college or university refuse to go to class
How to manage a Strike Management should advise the union that it must ensure that non-union members aren’t intimidated as soon as notice of intention to strike has been given. Place a notice on notice boards advising employees that the management is adopting a zero tolerance approach towards intimidation Management must advise the union and its members that any employee who engages in any acts of misconduct will be disciplined and, if guilty, may be dismissed.
