The location was picked by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 1535. Though not one original building remains, at the center of the plaza is an impressive bronze fountain erected in 1650. Today the plaza is flanked by the cathedral and several palaces including Palacio Arzobispal, which boasts some of the most exquisite Moorish-style balconies in the city.

Cristo del Pacífico: The statue is on the hill adjacent to Morro Solar, has a height of no less than 37 meters, was an initiative of former President Alan García Pérez. A work inspired by Corcovado’s Christ. The monument is incredible, not only because of how big it is, but because of its finish, when people go to see it, they go to see a statue, many of them walk, manage to climb simply by faith, by some belief or promise related to the religion. The large monument can be seen from several districts of Lima such as San Juan de Miraflores, Villa Maria del Triunfo, the high gully buildings, Miraflores and the entire green coast.
