SEMINAR 1. Title : Electric power sources for eco-friendly vehicles 2. Speaker : Dr. SaHeum Kim (Hyundai-Kia motors) 3. Time : 16:00 – 17:00, Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008 4. Place : e+ Lecture Hall (room 83188), 2nd Research Building, Sungkyunkwan University 5. Summary : We are now facing a serious paradigm shift in worldwide auto market to eco-friendly electric vehicle, such as hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), fuelcell vehicle (FCEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV), owing to environment regulation, fossil fuel shortage, and so on. Especially, in world-widest markets, such as Europe and US, fierce international competition and efforts for early-commercialization of the eco-friendly vehicle is getting under way. Hydrogen is well-known next-generation’s power source and futuristic energy for all mankind, and H2fuel-cell vehicle is powered by those hydrogen. Concerning the fuel-cell vehicle and its development, core materials such as catalyst, membrane, gas diffusion layer and hydrogen storage of low cost, high reliability and high compactness are prerequisite and urgent problems for mass production and commercialization of fuel-cell vehicle. All those eco-friendly vehicles are also based on common key technology such as battery system. Mass production and commercialization of battery for vehicle application as well owe much to new materials, featuring high-safety, extremely low-cost. Above all, four core elements such as cathode, anode, electrolyte and separator are material to performances, safety and cost of vehicle battery. 6.
