Campus Sustainability Assessment • Conducted collaboratively under CACS • Evaluated 9 systems, progress & opportunities • Example 1. Energy: Progress Opportunities - Green Building Policy - Electricity consumption rising and Clean Energy Stnd - ENERGY STAR purchase policy - Onsite solar projects - communication • Example 2. Water: Progress Opportunities - Decrease use in last 25 yrs - Recycle/reuse graywater - Improve wastewater quality - More water-efficient fixtures - Communication
Example of How To Make a Difference In 2002-2003, • Berkeley was last of all UC’s in terms of purchasing of recycled content (RC) paper. Now (after SGB initiated discussions with campus administrators) • RC paper was prioritized in recent negotiations with the University's preferred vendor for office supplies, Office Max. Now 30% recycled content paper costs the SAME as virgin paper. • The campus Administration as well as UC Printing have adopted a policy to use at least 30% RC paper.
