  1. New Representative positionsAn Invitation to apply Mark Richardson, Chief Executive VSF Cornwall

  2. Representing Cornwall’s VCS • VSF Cornwall is a small registered charity and company limited by guarantee. We have been around in one shape or another for 17 years. We are a charity that supports other charities • Our focus is on supporting our colleagues to speak up on behalf of the voluntary sector and, where necessary, to act as the voice of sector in strategic discussions. • As part of that role we hold a contract with Cornwall Council to support voluntary and community representation on strategic public sector partnerships.

  3. The roles that are available • We are looking to appoint individuals from the Voluntary and Community Sector(VCS) to represent the VCS on the following partnerships: • Cornwall Culture Partnership • Skills and Employment Board (subgroup of the Economic Forum) • Health and Wellbeing Management Board • These are all subgroups of the Cornwall Strategic Partnership. These partnerships meet on a regular basis during working hours.

  4. Cultural Partnership (1) • This is one of the ‘Thematic’ partnerships that make up Cornwall Strategic Partnership. • It is very wide – ranging in its remit and definition of culture, covering cultural identity, heritage, arts, sports and beyond! • The Partnership meets on a regular basis (once every few months) and is supported by officers from Cornwall Council. • The VCS seat is currently held on a ‘temporary’ basis by the Chief Executive of Cornwall VSF, who would be able to advise applicants further on the work involved • We would like to appoint a representative and a deputy with direct experience of working or volunteering in a VCS role that covers either cultural identity, arts, heritage, or sports.

  5. Skills and Employment Board (2) • This is an important new sub-group of the Economic Forum. • The group is due to have its inaugural meeting on 9th July, which will be attended by the CEO of the VSF as an interim measure. • The Employment and Skills Board is an employer-led group which brings together key partners driving economic and workforce development in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. • The board is responsible for the development of a strategic Employer-led workforce skills plan • It plans to hold at least 4 meetings a year • We are particularly interested in applicants who are involved in a VCS role linked to the delivery of care

  6. Health & Wellbeing Management Group (3) • We are looking for three representatives to sit on this new group, which is a sub-group of the Health and Wellbeing Thematic Partnership, which focuses on preventative work. • The group is an inclusive operational group working to implement the work programme of the Health and Wellbeing Partnership. • It reports to a new Executive Board. • We are looking for applicants who are involved in a VCS role linked to health and wellbeing.

  7. The requirements on applicants If you are interested in representing the sector on these partnerships, you need to be aware that there are certain requirements: • That you regularly feedback to, and elicit feedback from, the VCS • That you do this via various methods including the VSF website • That you attend VSF Representation Training within 6 months of coming into the role • The VSF will give you support and guidance to help you fulfil your role. • This opportunity is open to any individual that can meet the above criteria and is not already sitting in more than one VSF Representation Position.

  8. What to do next... • Information about these partnerships, the role of the VSF Representative and the Election Process can be found on our website: http://cornwallvsf.org • Please send nomination forms to lydia.billson@cornwallvsf.org . Deadline for submitting a self nomination form, accessible from the VSF website, for these partnerships is 12 noon on the 30th July 2010.
