  1. Daily Decisions Learning Targets: * Begin to be more aware of daily decisions and their effect on our lives * The research behind choice overload * Apply decision making to Case Studies

  2. Just think… • How many decisions do we have to make DAILY?! • Take a guess…. • The average adult in the USA today makes about 35,000 decisions each day • Most of them rather simple ones. Where will I sit, what will I have to eat at each feeding, how much, am I thirsty, should I call to let them know I'm late. Along with driving a car and what lane to be in, looking for other drivers, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=BatqV3B9hiU

  3. Ever go into a store, let’s say maybe Target , or a grocery store for just an item or two? Think this will just be an in and out trip….but find yourself overwhelmed choosing between products, price, quality, get hooked on other products, etc.?

  4. Is Less, More? Question: Do you find it easier to make a decision when you have less items to choose from? Why or why not? Count the dots…

  5. Count The Dots Continued… It was much easier to count the dots when there were only a few. That’s because the human eye is trained to be able to pick up on a smaller quantity of things. As soon as this number multiplies, the time it takes to process it all multiplies as well. This can frustrate people and the time for making a decision can be much longer when there is more options to weigh.

  6. Choice Overload! We chose not to chose at all or get overwhelmed in the process

  7. Less Truly is More! When you get rid of extraneous and distracting products research shows sales go up!! • Average Grocery Store 45,000 products • Average Wal-Mart 100,000 products • 9th Largest retailer in the world today is Aldis and offers only 1,400 products!

  8. Connection If research says getting rid of distracting and extraneous products helps for sales…do you think this may be a very similar connection to decision making?! Overall, people like to be in control of their decisions, but when there are so many options and important outcome, the decision becomes much harder to make.

  9. How Can Decisions Change Our Lives? The decisions we make daily all the way through a lifetime can impact our life’s path. ALL the decisions we make all of the time have a cause and effect reaction to our life. Not only our decisions, but those all around us effect our lives. As we watch this clip…tally how many decisions were made by people! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8h87YgPicw
