  5. Sunday Afternoon Cruise Beachcomber’s Sunday Afternoon cruise is one of sheer delight featuring a combination of our Ship Cove Cruise and the Motuara Island Bird Sanctuary Eco Tour. You will cruise to the outer reaches of the Queen Charlotte Sounds where you will visit Motuara Island a ‘predator free bird sanctuary’. Keep an eye open and many varieties of seabirds will be seen en-route Motuara Island. After leaving Motuara Island you will cruise to historical Ship Cove, named by Captain Cook in 1770. Here you will have the opportunity to go ashore for a 15 minute stroll on the beach with the resident Oyster Catchers, Paradise Ducks and the native Wood Hens (Weka). Also visit Captain Cook’s monument to commemorate his five visits here, before cruising through the Endeavour Inlet viewing Furneaux Lodge and Punga Cove Resort and viewing the salmon farm in Ruakaka Bay, this will see you cruising back to Picton.   6. Bird Sanctuary Eco Tour Motuara Island bird sanctuary attracts bird lovers from all over the world. All introduced pests were removed in the early 1990s and the island is now home to a variety of native species having struggled to survive, or died out on the mainland. These include saddleback (tieke), NZ robin (toutouwai), bellbird (korimako), tui, grey warbler (riroriro), NZ pigeon (kereru), silver eye (tauhou), fantail (piwakawaka), the endangered South Island Saddleback, the very rare king shag, Maud Island frog and the Marlborough green gecko. Follow the track which winds up to the highest point of the island and there awaits you fantastic views across to Ship Cove. There is a spectacular view to the North Island from the Cook Strait lookout. From October to April, our 8am departure will allow one and a half hours ashore on Motuara Island. With a pickup time of 10.30am this will enable you to have the choice of continuing your cruise back to Picton which includes a 15 minute stop at Ship Cove or choose to day walk or mountain bike on the Queen Charlotte Track. On arrival, from May to September, at this magnificent island you will disembark for a 30 minute chorus of song from the local inhabitants. Lift the lid on one of the many wooden nestling boxes along the track and a sleepy Little Blue Penguin may just glance up to see who is watching over them. Motuara Island is a predator free island administered by the Department of Conservation. This panoramic track offers virgin New Zealand bush, exceptional views and accommodation to cater for everyone’s budget which is made up of camping grounds, backpackers and five star resorts. The track is usually completed in four days, though it can be completed at your own leisure. We invite you to travel with us on The Great Track and Pack Pass, which is the best option for those who intend to walk or mountain bike all or part of the Queen Charlotte Track. *This pass includes return transport to and from the trackwith daily transfers of your luggageto your overnight destinations along the way. Cruise to your drop off destination aboard our 14 meter, 90 passenger catamaran ‘Tiri Cat’ for your Queen Charlotte Track experience.   10. Natures Best Walk 1 Ship Cove to Furneaux Lodge 15 kilometers Walking time 5 hours Venture into the great outdoors and get away for the day. Cruise the beautiful Queen Charlotte Sound to the beautiful and serene Ship Cove. Step into nature and spend a few minutes exploring the beach where Captain Cook spent much of his time. Observe the resident Oyster Catchers and Weka. Then walk through approximately 14 kilometers of native forest enroute to Furneaux Lodge catching fantastic views of the outer sounds. For a variety of scenery from rugged grand to placidly beautiful there is nothing that compares. On arrival at Furneaux Lodge a warm welcome awaits you where you can partake in refreshments before boarding your cruise vessel at 4.00-4.15pm for your return to Picton between 6-6.30pm.   11. Natures Best Walk 2 Resolution Bay to Furneaux Lodge 10.5 kilometers Walking time 3 hours Venture into the great outdoors. This walk from Resolution Bay to Furneaux Lodge is designed for the not so energetic eliminating the 2 hour stretch from Ship Cove to Resolution Bay. However you will still have 15 minutes ashore at historical Ship Cove to explore and take some photos of the Captain Cook monument before disembarking at Resolution Bay. As you reach Tawa Saddle, take time to relax on the bench and absorb the stunning scenery that surrounds. Gaze out upon the deep blue sea and let your troubles wash away with the tide.   12. Top of the World Torea Bay to Punga Cove 23.6 kilometers Walking time 5½ - 7 ½ hours Feel like a challenge? We offer a full day walk from Torea Bay to Punga Cove which is 23.6kms long. With stunning scenery and challenging terrain this is a day walk like no other. Offering panoramic views of the Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds this is a day full of breathtaking views. Depart with Beachcomber Cruises vessel ‘Tracker’ at 8am to Torea Bay. Beachcomber Cruises vessel ‘Tiri Cat’ will be alongside the Punga Cove wharf at approximately 4.10pm to return you back to Picton. If you have time, at Punga Cove enjoy a drink or a meal from their Boatshed Bar.   13. Wildly Free Walk Torea Bay to Anakiwa 20.7 Kilometers Walking time 5- 6 ½ hours Enjoy spectacular views as you climb the main ridge between Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds. Follow old bridle paths through regenerating forest that is home to weka, silver eyes, fantails and many more native New Zealand birds. Take time to look back over the distance covered during our walk and take in the breathtaking vistas. Your adventure ends with a gentle walk through the magnificent beech forest to Anakiwa where your boat will meet you to return you back to Picton.   14. Freedom Walk Torea Bay to Mistletoe Bay 7.8 kilometers Walking time 3 hours Get the best of both worlds with fantastic views over both the Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds. Bring your lunch, your camera and wear good walking shoes. This cruise and walk departs Picton at 9.30am and cruises over to Torea Bay. En route relax and enjoy the magic that this cruise has to offer. Once disembarking at Torea explore 8kms of the Queen Charlotte Walkway. Along the track, look out for the native wildlife.   15. Wilderness Walk Mistletoe Bay to Anakiwa 12.9 kilometers Walking time 4 hours Tour the inner sounds with the Round the Bays cruise. Disembark at Mistletoe Bay approximately 10.30am. Take the road from the jetty to the Te Mahia saddle where you can join the Queen Charlotte Track for the Anakiwa Wilderness Walk. There are surprises galore by the trail, a good eye will spot tiny native orchids. Take your camera to capture the magnificent views of the open bays.   16. Queen Charlotte Track Mountain Biking For the more adventurous, the Queen Charlotte Track is regarded as New Zealand's best single mountain bike track. Renowned for its stunning scenery and challenging terrain the Queen Charlotte Track is suitable for novice to experience riders. The Queen Charlotte Track is open to bikers all year round, except for peak summer times from December 1st to February 28th when only the last two sections from Camp Bay to Anakiwa can be cycled. Beachcomber Fun Cruises are able to offer many different options for your mountain bike adventure. The Mountain Bikers ChallengeA challenge even for the best riders, this ride is from Torea Bay to Anakiwa and is approximately 20.5 kms along the scenic Queen Charlotte track. A must for any keen mountain biker. The Mountain Bikers Easy Rider The easy rider includes a good part of the round the bays cruise. You will disembark at Mistletoe Bay and take an easy ride along 12 kms of native forest on the magical Queen Charlotte track to Anakiwa, with the option of continuing onto Picton. The 2 Day Extreme Mountain Bike AdventureThis only operates between 1st March to 31st November. The 2 day extreme mountain bike adventure is a big ask even for the serious mountain biker. * Day 1: Disembark at either Ship Cove, Furneaux Lodge or Punga Cove, bike to your overnight stop where your bags will be waiting for you. * Day 2: Tackle the rest of the track and then bike back to Picton, where your bags will be waiting at our office for your return home.
