Classifying Polygons Section 9.3
Learning Targets • I can classify triangles. • I can classify quadrilaterals.
Polygon A polygon is a closed plane figure with at least three sides. The sides meet only at their endpoints. • A triangle is a polygon with three sides. You can classify triangles by angle measures. • You can also classify triangles by side lengths. Tick marks are used to indicate congruent sides of a figure.
Practice • On your graphic organizer: • Draw an obtuse scalene triangle • Draw an Isosceles Right Triangle.
Regular Polygons • A regular polygon has all sides congruent and all angles congruent. Some regular polygons are shown below.
Perimeter • How would you find the perimeter of a regular triangle? • How would you find the perimeter of a regular hexagon?
Sum of the interior angles • A triangle has a total of _________̊ . • To find the sum of the measure of the interior angles use the following equation. • (n-2)180
Practice • What would the sum of the measures of the interior angles of a hexagon be? • What would the sum of the measures of the interior angles of a dodecagon be?
