NEWS March SCHOOL TOURS It is that time of the year again, when we plan our school tours for the children in the school. The school tours this year will see the Junior Infants to Second Class visit Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park in County Kildare, while the children from Third Class – Sixth Class will visit the Irish National Heritage Park in Ferrycarrig in County Wexford. Each teacher will contact you after Easter with details of the relevant school tour. JUNIOR SCHOOL TOUR On Thursday 12th June Junior Infants, Senior Infants, First Class and Second Class will go on their school tour. This year we will go to Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park located in the Bog of Allen in Co. Kildare. This is a fun and educational tour, with a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities. The activities include a guided tour of the pet farm, an adventure outdoor playground and crazy golf, ‘Funky Forest’ indoor play area, nature trail and a road train trip. SENIOR SCHOOL TOUR The children from Third Class – Sixth Class will visit the Irish National Heritage Park in Ferrycarrig in County Wexford on Wednesday, 11th June 2014. The 35 acre park will allow the children to experience first hand how their ancestors lived. Starting in the middle Stone Age each student will be guided through the major changes in Irish history, learning how people worked, lived and died. Interacting with the experienced guides the children will learn about early Irish history through different mediums than normal. Sights, sounds, smell and even taste will enable them to get a truly unique perspective into Early Irish History. Following a guided tour of the park, the children will then make and decorate their own personal Viking shield using “history inspired designs”. Once produced and painted each student can return home with their shield as a reminder of their learning experience. BAG PACKING Lately, the school was given the opportunity to bag-pack in Centra, Templemore in order to raise much needed funds for the school. We would like to thank most sincerely all those parents and members of our community who gave of their time to take part in this very successful fundraising event. We would like to thank in particular those parents who covered more than one time slot. A total of €963.88 was raised. Well done to all involved. The school is so appreciative of your hard work and effort for the school and in particular for the children who will benefit hugely from the monies raised. SEACHTAIN NA GAEILGE INÁR SCOIL March 1st – 17th saw us celebrate Seactain na Gaeilge in our school. A number of events took place to mark this important time. On Thursday, 6th March, the children attended a Céilí Mór with a twist. Their dance teacher, Ms. Sinéad Cahill, directed the children as they treated all there to a wonderful display of Irish dancing mixed with modern dance. In addition, we enjoyed many fun activities ‘as gaeilge’ in school. The children from Junior Infants to Second Class came together for a number of fun activities including bingó, cluichí boird agus scéalaíocht. while Third & Fourth Class made an iMovie based on the weather forecast or Réamhaisnéis na hAimsire.
