  2. Connecticut was Founded The colony was founded by Thomas Hooker. The colony was founded in 1636. The colony was founded because Thomas Hooker wanted religious freedom, and he hated the lack of democracy in Massachusetts, so he left for what we call Connecticut. He built the first colony based on Puritan guidelines(principles).

  3. Where colony got its name It got its name from a Mohica/Algorquin Indian Word “quonentacut” which means long tidal river.

  4. Geography of Connecticut • The climate in Connecticut is humid continental. • The Regional location is the New England Colonies. • Some rivers and lakes are Connecticut River, Housatonic River, Thames River, and Lake Candlewood. • Major cities in colonial times or now are Hartford, Bristol, New Newington, and Britain, West Haven, New London, Nor Walk. • .

  5.  Important State Things  Connecticut is the Constitution State. State song is the Yankee Doodle. State Bird is the American Robin. State animal is the Sperm Whale. State Fossil is the EubrontesGiganteus. State insect is the European Mantis. State Shellfish is the Eastern Oyster.
