Group comprised of professionals from a variety of University departments who have administrative, psychological, academic, student development, public safety, and legal expertise. Resource for faculty and staff. Operates within FERPA/HIPAA requirements. What is the BCT?
Assist faculty and staff in addressing concerns about students who may represent a threat of harm to themselves or to others. Provide guidance as to the best strategy to handle the situation. Provide a coordinated response. Goals of the BCT
Support faculty and staff who have encountered a challenging student situation or uncharacteristic student behavior. Balance campus safety with rights of students. Meet every other week during the school year and as needed. Record and check back. Goals of the bct (continued)
Resolve situations for the reporting party. Immediately suspend students or remove students from a class. Provide student record information to those outside of the BCT. What is outside the scope of the BCT
Concerned party assists the student with a referral to the appropriate resources on campus. • Catch situations early • Contact me and/or BCT with potential concerns • Work with members of the BCT to identify the best strategy for handling the situation. The BCT approach
Meet with the student and a mental health professional. Campus police intervention. Student may be asked to meet with staff from the Office for Student Conduct and Academic Integrity (OSCAI). Students may utilize the Student Conflict Resolution Center (SCRC) for assistance. Possible outcomes
