Roller coasters are a fun, exciting way for all types of people to experience a thrilling ride that takes their breath away. The steep drops and fast speeds could give any person an adrenaline rush that won’t die down until your next ride!
The History of the Roller Coaster The first two roller coasters that operated on a continuous circuit were built in 1817 in France. One was named Les Montages Russes (The Russian Mountain) was built in Belleville, while the other named PromandesAeriennes was built at Beajon Gardens in Paris. In 1884, the first roller coaster in America opens at Coney Island, in Brooklyn, New York.

The two tallest roller coasters are Steel Force and the Desperado. They are 225 feet tall. There once was a man who did not talk for six years because of shell shock, but after a ride on the Coney Island Cyclone, he told his friend, "I feel sick.“ A long time ago there was a roller coaster that jumped a gap, but it was banned because the jump would vary according to the weight of the people. The earliest known devices resembling roller coasters were ice-covered wooden slides constructed in Russia in the 1400's. The first steel roller coaster was built in Disney World in 1959. Some of the items people find under roller coasters besides wallets, change, and keys are glass eyes, fake legs, brassieres and false teeth. There used to be a roller coaster track that people could drive their car on. Roller coasters usually don't have engines. Most of them travel safely around the track strictly by using gravity, friction and speed. "Fourth dimension" coasters spin or rotate your seat as the ride twists, turns and free-falls.
I have been on too many roller coasters to count. The most recent ones I’ve been on were at Hershey Park, and my favorites were the Great Bear, the Sidewinder, Fahrenheit, and Storm Runner. My first roller coaster was the Big Bad Wolf in Bush Gardens, Virginia. My parents and siblings hated it, but I wanted to go again!
