Network Hardware Types Network Protocols Network Adapters MCS-Magnum Communication MicroMag Communication Example Network Configurations Presentation Overview
Three network hardware types that are used in MCS products: RS485 Ethernet LonWorks (twisted pair) Network Hardware Types
One twisted pair (two conductors) Shielded wire – wrapped foil with drain wire Minimum AWG 20 Max baud rate: 115,000 bit/s Multidrop – point to point Max 30 MCS Controllers wired together Total Network cable length < 4000’ (1219m) Can be lengthened with a repeater RS485 Hardware
Star topography 4 twisted pairs (8 conductors) CAT5E Max baud rate: 10 Mbit/s Max cable length < 328’ (100m) Can be lengthened with a switch Ethernet Hardware
One twisted pair (two conductors) Shielded wire Free topography Minimum AWG 20 Total Network cable length < 3280’ (1000m) Can be lengthened with a repeater LonWorks Hardware
Network protocols are formatting rules that specify how data is sent and received between devices. Protocols are necessary for devices to interact with each other. Protocols MCS controllers support: Bacnet Modbus LonTalk Johnson N2 MCS Network Protocols
The MCS Controllers support the following network protocols: Network Protocols Over Ethernet Over RS485 Over LonWorks
MCS uses different optional network adapters: Hardware Adapters MCS-Ethernet (Ethernet – RS485) MCS-I/O (RS485) Hardware & Protocol Adapters MCS-BMS-Gateway (Bacnet MSTP, LonTalk, Johnson N2) MCS-Bacnet-Router2 (Bacnet IP) MCS Network Adaptors
Converts Bacnet MSTP (RS485) to: LonTalk (LonWorks) Johnson N2 (RS485) Converts Bacnet IP (Ethernet) to: LonTalk (LonWorks) Johnson N2 (RS485) Bacnet MSTP (RS485) Only supports one MCS-Magnum or MicroMag Can be powered from MCS Controller MCS-BMS-Gateway • RS485 • Johnson N2 • Bacnet MSTP Or Ethernet Bacnet IP MCS-Magnum MCS-BMS-Gateway • LonWorks • LonTalk • RS485 • Johnson N2 RS485 Bacnet MSTP Or MCS-BMS-Gateway MicroMag • LonWorks • LonTalk
Converts Bacnet MSTP (RS485) to Bacnet IP (Ethernet) Supports up to 30 MicroMags Can be powered from MicroMag MCS-Bacnet-Router2 • Ethernet • Bacnet IP RS485 Bacnet MSTP MicroMag MCS-Bacnet-Router2
MCS-Pocket Router-2 Kit Components 110# power cord USB cable to MCS-POCKET ROUTER-2 • The MCS-POCKET ROUTER-2 is the perfect travel companion for easy wireless internet • The MCS-POCKET ROUTER-2, 2.4GHz wireless technology allows 11n data transfer rates of up to 150Mbps • Powered by USB for extreme portability • The MCS-POCKET ROUTER-2 can be USB-powered to ensure convenient internet access anywhere • Easy Setup • MCS-POCKET ROUTER-2 ships with a different default SSID and encryption enabled by default. • Advanced Security Features • To provide the highest data security possible, the MCS-POCKET ROUTER-2 supports WEP, WPA, and WPA2 encryption.
MCS-WIRELESS-4G • Broadband Router with Integrated Verizon 4G Modem • (Only for use in USA) • The MCS-WIRELESS-4G is built for your network • The router features a built-in high-speed Verizon 4G EVDO modem. Supplied with one year subscription to MCS Wireless Verizon Data Plan, 250MB per month. • The MCS-WIRELESS-4G is a powerful tool that is especially useful in locations where there is no readily available internet connection. Combined with the data plan, the MCS-WIRELESS-4G may be used to wirelessly connect to the MCS-MAGNUM wherever a cellular signal is found. • You will receive everything you need to setup communication with an MCS Controller. NOTE: The MCS-WIRELESS-4G can be used to communicate with multiple MSC Controllers. Email: sales@mcscontrols.com for more information.
MCS-Magnum Communication • The MCS-Magnum comes with two hardware communication ports: RS485 Port Ethernet Port
MCS-Magnum Communication • The MCS-MAGNUM-DOOR-NEMA4 Keypad has been sealed in its own frame using a new Gasket (BISCO HT-800 Medium Cellular Silicone). The RS485 port has been added to the back of the Keypad. Moving the communicating port to the back, adding the new gasket, provides the unit with a NEMA4 rating. Operating Temperature -4°F to +158°F (-20°C to +70°C) Keypad showing New design, adding RS-485 connection New Gasket Provides the unit with a NEMA4 rating • RS485 port on the MCS-Magnum
MCS –USB-RS485 • The MCS-USB-RS485 is a USB to RS485 level serial cable that provides a fast simple way to connect your computer to MCS controllers, MCS-MAGNUM and MICROMAG. • The MCS-USB-RS485 cable contains a small internal electronic circuit board, utilizing the FT232R, which is encapsulated into the USB connector end of the cable. Each cable supports the FTDIChip-ID™ and is equipped with a unique USB serial number programmed into the FT232R. • MCS-USB-RS485 • MCS-MAGNUM PC (MCS-Connect) • MicroMag
MCS-Magnum RS485Building Management System • Using the RS485, the MCS-Magnum can be connected to the BMS (Modbus RTU or MCS 485 protocols) • MCS-MAGNUMS Building Management System . . . RS485
Wiring Multiple MCS Controllers • Using the RS485, the network must be wired controller to controller • Star configurations not allowed • Up to 30 controllers can be wired together Correct Incorrect • MCS-MAGNUM • MicroMag . . . • MCS-MAGNUM
MCS-Magnum Ethernet • Using the Ethernet, the MCS-Magnum can be connected to: • BMS (Bacnet IP or Modbus IP) • MCS-Touchscreen (MCS-Connect) • PC (MCS-Connect) • Internet access through router (which allows connection via MCS-Connect from anywhere) • MCS-MAGNUM Or Or Or Ethernet
Ethernet access can be added with the MCS-Ethernet MicroMag Communication • The MicroMag comes standard with two independent RS485 ports: RS485 Port
MicroMag RS485 • The MicroMag RS485 port can be used to connect: • MCS-Touchscreen (MCS-Connect) • BMS (Bacnet MSTP or Modbus RTU or MCS 485) Building Management System • MicroMag RS485 . . . or MCS-TouchScreen
