    6. Limitations of the PRS Limited to knowledge mastery Not enough think time for some students Requires fine motor skills Requires initial software installation and knowledge

    7. Benefits of the PRS Assess prior knowledge, formative assessment Check for understanding, summative assessment Start a discussion Create questions in PRS, PPT, or import from some textbooks Engaging and interactive Compile data quickly for sharing results Data in electronic format

    8. Getting started in PRS software Close all applications on computer Install PRS software and radio frequency (RF) receiver Connect and setup your class Create lesson questions Administer the session

    9. Install receiver Plug receiver in USB port It will take a moment to self-install Hint: always use same port Questions can be created without the receiver in USB port

    12. Creating a new lesson or editing an existing one Click on new lesson to create Go to the Lessons tab If lessons are not shown, click on the Lessons icon to expand available lessons Select the lesson you wish to use or edit

    16. To do a test session… Complete all questions, hit add to save last question, then close Shut the PRS software Insert the receiver in computer USB Open the PRS software to start a survey

    17. Start a new session, step 1

    18. Start a new session, step 2 Click on the “New Session” button. This will pull up a new session window where you can modify the name of the session and any defaults. Click on PRS Lesson and the lesson name that you want to choose for this session. Click OK, and then your first question will appear.

    20. Useful tips If it goes to sleep, hit enter (do not shut off) Wait until the question is started (“Wait for Q” will appear if you’ve responded too early

    46. Additional Information PRS file formats PRS files are saved in a PRS folder in My Documents. Most PRS files are .csv files and can be edited in Excel. The lesson files are .xml files. Reports can either be saved as .PDF, or as .rtf (text file).

    51. Gradebook The Gradebook function allows you to add marked sessions to a grade book. Grade book files save as a .csv file and can also be viewed in Excel. Export gradebook to Data Desk, GradeQuick. Bb, WebCT, WebAssign, XML You can also add non-PRS grades to the gradebook

    52. Types of gradebook reports Grades by Session: This report gives the class average per session and each student’s mark for each session. Grades by Student ID: This report lists each student by their student ID and has their cumulative average as well as a breakdown of their grade by session. Grades by Student Name: This report lists each student by their name and has their cumulative average as well as a breakdown of their grade by session. *Also available in individual page format.
