  2. It is teachers who, in the end, will change the world of the school by understanding it -L. Stenhouse 2006 Racquel Harrell

  3. Are you growing tired of the following? • Expensive trainings that claim to teach you every thing you ever wanted to know about something you never wanted to know. • Professional consultants brought in to teach you concepts that one of your co-teachers or even you are actually capable of teaching or better yet, modeling. • Not being able to really spend time learning how to enhance “your” own teaching instruction. For instance if you teach 6th grade math, having the chance to learn more about…6th grade math. 2006 Racquel Harrell

  4. If you agree with any of those then may I present: Action Research!! 2006 Racquel Harrell

  5. What is Action Research? • First of all…It’s not MANDATORY!!!! But invitational. If you’re interested..you’re invited! • Also, AR is a tool that allows “you” the teacher to learn more about and enhance “your” own teaching! • It is defined as: a process in which participants examine their own educational practice, systematically & carefully, using the technique of research. 2006 Racquel Harrell

  6. How can it work for you? • You develop questions that you would like to answer specifically about your classroom (maybe you have a concern with a particular teaching method or your student results). • For Example: My AR Question for 2006 was: “In what ways will my student’s level of engagement increase when teaching grammar through writing?” 2006 Racquel Harrell

  7. Sample AR Questions School Focus: “Why is their a palpable lack of black parent participation within our school”? Department Focus: “Is outlining a chapter more effective than using flashcards or notebooks”? Classroom Focus: “ How can I motivate my students in order to improve achievement”? 2006 Racquel Harrell

  8. After you develop a question you simply: Research Collect Data Write about your findings Share your results What’s Next? 2006 Racquel Harrell

  9. More about Action Research • Attend workshops at your school that are facilitated by your Action Research contact. • You can earn up to 25 in-service points for completing an Action Research report! • Contact your Action Research contact for more information. 2006 Racquel Harrell
