What are thesteps in actionresearch? • AR involvesfourphases 1.Planning 2.Action 3.Observation 4.Reflection Kemmis and McTaggart (1988)
Planning 1.You havetoidentify a problemorissuefirst. 2. Then, develop a plan of action in ordertoimproveorsolvetheproblemorissueyou are facing up in yourclassroom. • Remembertoconsider: • Whatkind of investigationispossible (withingtherealitiesorconstraints of yourteachingsituation) • Whatpotentialimprovementsyouthink are possible. Burns (2010-P.8)
Action • Actioninvolvestheinterventionsthatyoucarryouttosolveorimprovetheproblemorissueyoupreviouslyidentified, and youputsuchinterventionsintoactionoveranagreedperiod of time. • Theseinterventionsdependonyourassumptionsaboutyourcurrentsituation and theplansyouhavetochangetheway of doingthings. Burns (2010-P.8)
Observation • Observationiswhenyou observe theeffects of theactionphase, and youdocumentthecontext, actions, and opinions of thosewhowereinvolvedin yourresearch (students, parents, etc.) • We can saythatthisis a data collectionphase. Burns (2010-P.8)
Reflection • In thisphaseyoureflecton, evaluate, and describe theeffects of theactionin ordertomakesense of what has happened and tounderstandtheissueyouhaveexplored more clearly. You can come to a conclusion of howtosolvetheproblemyoufoundfirst. • Itisyourdecisiontocontinueresearchingtoimprovethesituationeven more. Burns (2010-P.8)
