  1. What Attributes Do The Worlds Best Football Players Share?

  2. Even those who aren’t fans of the sport, know who some of the world’s best football players are, but do they know what it is that they all share? What makes them ‘the best’ at what they do? While there is no magic formula to becoming a great and memorable football player, there are some key qualities that the best soccer players of all time possess. And if you want to make it into the upper echelons of the soccer hall of fame and be judged as one of the world’s best, here are some of the attributes you’ll need:

  3. Strong technique Football technique can be separated into 3 distinct areas, each of which the player must master if they’re to be the best at what they do: • Ball control and mastery Being able to collect, control, and expertly manipulate the ball with both feet, legs, chest and head. • Running and dribbling With the ball in full control, it is moved by the player in different directions, and at different speeds.

  4. Body shapes and movement The way in which the players body is moved in an efficient manner – whether with the ball or not - to make the most of coordination and balance. Right Mindset A players mindset can be the difference between playing at a lower level, and playing at the top, and here are some of the different mindsets they must learn to adopt: • Drive and passion They must possess an innate hunger and ambition to succeed

  5. Mental resilience How a player reacts in times of adversity, can help shape his success • Leadership Being able to lead a team as well as be a part of one, is a vital asset to possess • Coachability Accepting feedback and growing from mistakes is important for players seeking to improve their game.

  6. Self-motivation Players must want to improve themselves and their game, by always finding new skills to learn • Responsibility While there can be no doubt that soccer is a team game, every player has their own set of responsibilities to follow while on and off the pitch

  7. Game intelligence This particular attribute is probably one of the hardest to teach, as outcomes in a soccer game cannot be predicted and many different scenarios can take place during the match. Measured by the decisions players make and the speed at which they play, game intelligence is made up of spatial awareness and assessment of risks. In the former, a player must quickly make sense of what is going on around him on the pitch, and make appropriate decisions, while for the latter, a player must make calculated, well informed decisions for the good of the team, while playing.

  8. Team player Whether a team wins or loses, they do so together, and being able to play as a team is an important attribute for any worldclass soccer player. A team that is a collective unit, working harmoniously together, generally performs better. Physically fit How physically fit a player is, can determine whether they reach professional level or not, and they must focus on their agility, balance, coordination, stamina, power, speed, and strength, if they’re to be among the world’s best.

  9. The top 20 football players of all time wouldn’t have got where they are today, without possessing all of the attributes above, and if you’ve got your eyes set on a career in football, you’d do well to start honing these skills now.
