Libraries + 2020 Census count us In! Libraries working together to help our communities achieve a complete count.
Why Why is this important for Missouri? • “WHEREAS, one percent of Missouri's population equates to one billion dollars of federal funding per decade…” • As a result of Missouri’s undercount in the 2010 Census, Missouri lost a congressional seat and $79 billion that could have supported • Medicaid • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program • Highway Planning and Construction • Section 8 Housing Vouchers • National School Lunch Program • State Children’s Health Insurance Program
Why Why #CountonLibraries? • Working to ensure a fair, accurate, and inclusive census aligns with our professional values and the needs of the diverse communities we serve—particularly those most in danger of underrepresentation and underfunding. • Libraries can connect people who otherwise lack secure and reliable internet access and make sure that people know that they also can respond by phone or paper questionnaire if they prefer.
