Supporting Social Competence & Academic Achievement 4 PBIS Elements OUTCOMES Supporting Decision Making Supporting Staff Behavior DATA SYSTEMS PRACTICES Supporting Student Behavior
Tertiary Prevention: Specialized Individualized Systems for Students with High-Risk Behavior CONTINUUM OF SCHOOL-WIDE INSTRUCTIONAL & POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT ~5% Secondary Prevention: Specialized Group Systems for Students with At-Risk Behavior ~15% Primary Prevention: School-/Classroom- Wide Systems for All Students, Staff, & Settings ~80% of Students
Functions needed within the school/district: • Direct teaching/modeling/reinforcement of positive, expected behaviors in all areas of the school (connection to real life/home/community settings) • Scaling up of teaching and reinforcement with students who exhibit the need for modified/enhanced instruction of expected behaviors (focus on classroom), building into individualized interventions/wraparound • Team based approach to all three tiers, with use of data to guide decision-making
Professional development/coaching provided to assist schools in further development and skill refinement related to establishing systems for all three tiers of support • Focus on utilizing strengths, collaboration outside of the school building, inclusion of families in ALL plan development and implementation (Nothing about me without me)
Recent additions: • Use of Systemic Screening for Behavior Disorders (SSBD) to allow schools to identify internalizing behaviors and to provide earlier identification of students who may need a higher level of support
