It’s about who we are, what happened to us, and how our lives were affected” ​​– Whenever one gets glimpses of ​Bidriware​​, these words of Elizabeth Broun, Elizabeth Broun, director of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, will undoubtedly echo in one’s brain. Bidriware, a rather lesser known metal crafting art of Bidar, is all about infusing an element of ‘revival & dazzle’ to an otherwise mundane pot of metal. Bidri metal handicraft products depict the rich history of the Bidar city and the name ‘​Bidriware​‘ originates from there only. Wherein, The term Bidriware took birth under the rule of Ahmed Shah and his son Second Alauddin Bahmani, the origin of Bidriware is attributed to Abdullah bin Kaiser, a craftsman from Iran and the local artisans of Bidar. They joined hands with one another and invented Bidriware, which was later handed over to generations as time grew. The unique metalware and amazing inlay artwork are still the chief centre of attraction of Bidar.   3. Every Bidriware piece goes through several different stages of development to come out to be a true masterpiece. The stages are casting, polishing, designing, engraving, pure silver inlaying, blackening, smoothening, buffing and finally oxidising by soil and ammonium chloride. The manufacturing process of ​Bidriware involves an alloy of zinc and copper combined with other non-ferrous metals.   4. unknown but, the ancient artisans say that the soil consists great oxidizing properties because it is brought from the Bidar mines hence, metal extracts in the soil and make it unique. The other craftsmen believe that the Bidri earth is enriched with some refined elements that makes it apart from the rest. It has been said by the artisans that the real craft of the Bidriware lies in the mud. Therefore, testing of the mud is crucial and they test it by their tongues to pick the best one.
