Sammy’s Christmas Adventure. It was the night before Christmas. All was quiet at Eversley school. The sky was clear, the stars glistened and the snow lay deep on the ground. The children were all at home tucked up in bed eagerly awaiting Christmas day.

  1. Sammy’s ChristmasAdventure It was the night before Christmas. All was quiet at Eversley school. The sky was clear, the stars glistened and the snow lay deep on the ground.

  2. The children were all at home tucked up in bed eagerly awaiting Christmas day.

  3. Sammy the Eversley Squirrel sat in his tree enjoying his favourite supper of acorns.

  4. Sammy munched away and gazed at the stars. Suddenly he caught sight of something moving high in the sky.

  5. Sammy rubbed his eyes and looked up again. The object was closer now and he could just make out the shape of a sleigh, pulled by several reindeer, flying along in the sky.

  6. It was a very strange sight indeed and Sammy thought he must be dreaming. He rubbed his eyes again. To his amazement the sleigh was still there and it was now slowing down and heading towards the roof of one of the houses.

  7. The sleigh landed with a bump on the roof. By now Sammy had completely forgotten about his supper as he watched someone climbing out of the sleigh.

  8. It was a man with a fluffy white beard and dressed all in red. The man picked up a large round sack from the sleigh and walked across the roof towards the chimney.

  9. He threw the sack into the chimney and jumped on it to try to push it down. No good. The sack was too big!

  10. The man gave up trying to jump on the sack. Instead he grabbed hold of it and squeezed himself and the sack down the chimney. Sammy couldn’t believe his eyes!

  11. Sammy watched the reindeer on the roof and waited to see what would happen next. A few minutes passed.

  12. Suddenly the man appeared on the roof again as if by magic. He spotted Sammy watching him. He hopped back into the sleigh and called out some instructions to the reindeer.

  13. The sleigh flew quickly from the roof to the ground next to Sammy’s tree.

  14. The man jumped out and began walking towards Sammy. Sammy thought he was about to be told off!

  15. But instead, the man smiled and pulled a small parcel out of his sack. He handed it to Sammy. “Happy Christmas, Sammy”, he said.

  16. As you probably know, squirrels don’t usually talk a lot. So Sammy put down his acorn, took the parcel and smiled to say ‘thank you’.

  17. In a flash the man had jumped back into the sleigh and in no time was flying off into the distance.

  18. Sammy carefully put his present away in his home in the tree. He finished eating his acorn supper and after a quick yawn snuggled down to sleep. What was Sammy’s present? Well, he would have to wait until Christmas day to open it, wouldn’t he !!!!!
