Employment Based Postgraduate Programme • Focus on developing researcher careers • Based on Danish Industrial PhD Model • Educate researchers at Masters and PhD level with an insight into business aspects of research and innovation. • Facilitate research collaboration, knowledge transfer and networking between Irish based enterprise and researchers at Irish Higher Education Institutions. • 30 awards in pilot call across all research disciplines (SET and HSS)

  5. Employment Based Postgraduate Programme continued…. • Researcher is an employee of the Employment Partner and based primarily on Employment Partner premises (50% - 70% of the time) • Researcher is registered as a Postgraduate student with Irish Higher Education Institution

THE AWARD • Master’s by research • 12 months where researcher is not registered for structured coursework • 24 months where researcher is registered for structured coursework • PhD • 36 months where researcher is notregistered for structured coursework • 48 months where researcher is registered for structured coursework • Scholarship will be awarded to the individual researcher • Full Time Research only

  7. The researcher • Open to existing employees as well as new employees • Cannot be enrolled as postgraduate student at time of application • Subject to Irish Research Council assessment • Must engage in full time research • Reporting requirements • Must reside in Ireland for duration of award

Employment Participant • Employ researcher for duration of Award / operate normal salary and tax procedures. • Commitment to top up researcher salary to minimum of €24,000 pa • Professional working environment capable of supporting the researcher and research project; • Capacity to provide mentoring and professional guidance to the individual researcher • Ensure that the Research Project is embedded in organisation;

Research Proposal • Basis for the research, Hypothesis under investigation and main objectives • Research Strategy and Methodology with significant milestones if identified • Details of collaboration between HEI and Employment Participant and other organisations, HEI departments or bodies • Details of travel requirement for training or research purposes

  11. Application – academic Supervisor • How well do you know the postgraduate candidate • Discussions, previous collaborations with employment participant • Facilities and supports • Details of supervisory arrangements • Structured elements

Application – Employment Participant Forms Focus on suitability to host a researcher through programme • Details of employment participant • Details of mentor and additional supervisory arrangements • Facilities and supports • Relevance of research to company/organisation • Details of collaboration with HEI • Integration of research into company/organisation

  13. Application – Referee Form x 2 • Similar to Enterprise Partnership Scheme referee forms • Suitability of researcher for a research career • Demonstrate evidence of past experience rather than expressing their opinion as to your ability
