Fundación Secretariado Gitano Pilot: Tools used in the Assertive Outreach Marta Hernández EnríquezInternational Department
About the pilot • Objective: Analysis of some of the tools used in the Assertive Outreach Approach to determine their usefulness in improving intervention processes used at FSG and how the tools/elements of these tools can be integrated into current systems. • Methodology: • Review of the tools currently used by FSG for intervention, notably with Roma migrants • Analysis of the tools used in Manchester with a view to analysing whether these tools or elements included in them could serve to complement and improve FSG interventions • Initial identification of potential modifications/elements to be included in FSG tools • Actors involved: FSG professionals at general level and those working specifically with Roma migrants
Reflection process:Tools used by FSG • 1. Tools currently used by FSG in relation with intervention, notably with Roma migrants: • Which tools are used? Specific tools and procedures or general tools (with or without adaptations)? • Do these tools take sufficiently into account the specificities of the Roma migrant population? • Would it be appropriate to adapt them or to create new ones?
Reflection process:Tools used in Manchester • Initial assessment of the tool used in Manchester and their usefulness/transferability in FSG interventions • Tools analysed • Referral form • Initial Assessment Form • Manchester Common Assessment Framework (MCAF) • Case closure form • Questions for reflection • Are they relevant and useful? • Are FSG tools similar or include similar information? • Could they be useful and adapted for the Spanish context, and notably FSG interventions? • Are there elements of these tools that could be relevant to integrate in FSG tools?
Reflection process:Potential modifications tools • Initial identification of potential modifications/elements to be included in FSG tools • Which elements of these tools could be relevant to integrate in FSG intervention tools? • Barriers/areas to be taken into account regarding the adaptation of the tools and the gathering of information • Difficulty to obtain some of the information included in the forms (e.g. ethnic origin, really specific information…) • Too detailed forms which are too complex and time-consuming • Need to have tools and systems that allow to obtain information in a quick and easier way • Need to adapt FSG tools and related databases → need for human and financial resources
Future Steps • Ongoing process of sharing of relevant information and consultation with FSG professionals working with migrant Roma • Further assessment of the specific elements which could be adapted in the current tools and the possibility to process to the adaptation of the tools in practice • Informal use of elements of the tools by FSG professionals
