4. Highly reliable software - “This application HAS to work at all times!” Project Description VIPAuto is a chain of over 50 auto parts stores throughout New England. Their infrastructure uses hundred of POS based on a legacy software application. We determined that due to complexity of legacy code and business rules, would take more than 1 year to re-write the entire software. However VIP Auto needed a quick solution to extend the system. Our team created VIP POS Server, a Windows based service that provides a wrapper around the legacy POS system used in the stores which allows it to access the warehouse, a web based auto parts catalog, and newer hardware that has no drivers for MS DOS. Project Description RebusGen is the only program on the market that allows users to create crossword puzzles in Romanian language. Thanks to its speed and friendly interface, an entire magazine can be created in less than a day! The software was purchased and is used by many specialized magazines and newspapers. • Project Highlights • Generating large crosswords with a dictionary of over 60,000 words is a first class computational problem. The complexity is so high that it might take days to generate one single crossword. Our team has implemented multiple optimizations in the algorithms so the complexity was greatly reduced. We achieved a 5000% performance improvement. • Each magazine or page requires various graphic designs. Instead of generating an image hard to modify later, we created an algorithm that generates another program written in VBA. The program’s set of parameters is easy to change and re-run as many time as needed until the desired graphical result is achieved. Most important, iMonitorPC allows users to monitor computer activity remotely using our web site. With iMonitorPC, users can view detailed reports about programs run, web site visited and chat room activity. Also, the software lets users create dynamic rules for time based computer usage.
