Psychosis: A severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality It can happen to anyone, but usually develops in late teens/ early adulthood.
Psychosis effects 3 in every 100 people, making it a common illness When somebody in a family has psychosis, everyone is effected.
Psychosis effects more males than females, but women tend to develop psychosis later in life than men. 25% of people who develop psychosis will never have another episode, another 50% may have more than 1 episode, but will be able to live normal lives.
Psychosis can be treated successfully if people get help early. After treatment The earlier people get help the better the outcome.
In general, there is no known way to prevent most psychotic disorders, but many of the related symptoms can be prevented with early detection and treatment
