Immortal: What is the significance of Victor chasing the monster? • Taoist philosophy: …I persuaded myself that I was dreaming until night should come, and that I should then enjoy the reality in the arms of my dearest friends (p.151). • When awake, are you then no longer dreaming? Or are you just dreaming another dream? If life is mere shifting from one dream to another, they constantly ask : What is truly real? • All my speculations and hopes are as nothing; and, like the archangel who aspired to omnipotence, I am chained in an eternal hell (p.157).
