  5. World quiz Use the clues you’re about to see to work out where in the world I’m thinking of. You can also use maps, globes, atlases, reference books, CD-Roms… any source of information you like. But you only have 2 minutes before the answer is revealed!

  20. World news WORLD NEWS CHECK. DATELINE: 20 January China; Daytona Beach (USA); Mount Etna (Sicily); Atlantic Ocean; Atacama Desert (Chile). Tunis; Bermuda; Mediterranean Sea; Lake Baikal (Russia). Africa. Susie made a chart and marked on all the places that were mentioned in the news bulletin. Then she found their location on the map.

  22. Story settings Another great way of finding out about places around the world is to read stories! Country? Continent? Where is the story set? What nationality is the writer?

  23. Story settings A good story can tell you a lot about a place. Robert Louis Stevenson’s story Treasure Island starts in England, on the coast of Devon… ‘On stormy nights, when the wind shook the four corners of the house, and the surf roared along the cove and up the cliffs…’

  24. Story settings The story ends on an island in the Caribbean Sea… ‘Grey-coloured woods covered a large part of the surface… broken up by streaks of yellow sand in the lower lands, and by many tall pine trees… the hills ran up clear above, in spires of naked rock…’

  29. Review Sammy faced a long journey home. Which countries did he visit?

  30. Review The strong surge of the Atlantic was against him. But Sammy kept paddling hard. He had to get away! Slowly, the shouting from the waterpark faded into the distance. He was free! Free! But which way should he go? The cold blue waves stretched far away, windswept and empty… I’ve started the story. Can you finish it?
