What was the goal of the Progressive era?

The Progressive Era aimed to fix the problems caused by industrialization in America, including child labor, long working hours, low wages, discrimination, and poor living and working conditions. Women fought for suffrage through marches, speeches, and hunger strikes. The Temperance Movement sought to make alcohol illegal. Muckrakers exposed societal issues through various professions. The Jungle and How the Other Half Lives led to significant legislation and reforms. The Civil Service Commission introduced fair hiring practices for federal jobs.
