CAPE MAY LONG CRUISE PROPOSAL • Would travel by way of the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal • Would take thirteen days, In Chesapeake City, MD the skippers and any crew interested would change-out. • Would have many ports of call, with full days in Cape May, Baltimore, and Wye Island
First Day • Transit to Patuxent river. • Spend night on anchor • Long day, extending until 2230 • Distance could be offset by prepositioning the Runner in Colonial Beach
Second Day • Short jaunt up the Bay to Annapolis • Relatively short day, extending only to 1800 • Prevailing winds should make it a pleasant run up the Bay
ANNAPOLIS • Historic Seaport • One of the sailing capitals of the world • Lots of great restaurants, beautiful harbour, and wonderful views and atmosphere • State capital of Maryland
Third Day • Relaxed day, extending until 2045 • Tied up at Summit Pointe marina • Begin, but do not complete, our transit of the Chesapeake & Delaware canal
Fourth Day • Relaxed day, anchoring outside of the Cape May canal • Transiting down both the Delaware River and the Delaware Bay
Fifth Day • A short transit down the Cape May canal to tie up at a marina in the Cape May Basin • After arriving at a marina at 0900, the rest of the day is spent on the beaches of Cape May
CAPE MAY • Many miles of pristine beaches • Has a boardwalk lined with shops and homes • Large concentration of Victorian-style buildings • One of the biggest beach destinations on the East Coast
Sixth Day • Transit back up the Delaware bay and river and enter the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal • Arrive in Chesapeake City at 2300 • Skippers and any crew interested would swap-out this night or the next morning • Transiting the canal at night will not be an issue, because as seen in the picture below, it is well marked and illuminated
CHESAPEAKE CITY • We will have breakfast in Chesapeake City as well as re-provision the vessel on the morning of the seventh day, departing at 0900 • Beautiful city with great restaurants located directly alongside the canal
Seventh Day • Transit down the Bay and up the Patapsco River to Fell’s Point Baltimore • Relaxing 12 hour sail, ending at 2100 • Very picturesque transit
FELL’S POINT • Beautiful and historic borough of Baltimore • Home of the greatest burger that has ever and will ever exist on the face of this planet • Can take the relatively inexpensive water taxi to such places as the Inner Harbor, Fort McHenry, or Canton’s waterfront • Spend the entire eighth day here
Ninth Day • Sail down the Bay to then enter Eastern Bay and the Wye River, stopping to anchor for the night in one of the many coves that dot Wye Island’s shore • Relaxing sail, ending at 1900
WYE ISLAND • Spend the entire tenth day here • 2,450 of the island’s 2,800 acres are open public land • Deep water right up to the shore, with plenty of deep coves and creeks • Undeveloped and mostly grassland
Eleventh Day • Sail down the bay to Solomon’s Island in the Patuxent River • Arrive at 1930 and either tie up or anchor
Twelfth Day • Sail from Solomon’s Island down the Bay and up the Potomac to either Breton or St. Clement’s Bay • Gives a relaxing last night, arriving at our anchorage at 1900 • Allows for time to organize the Runner on the last day
Thirteenth Day • Final day • Quick jaunt to Dahlgren, arriving at 1130 • Clean and offload the boat
