  3. A Mole is... • a value given to a quantity of “things” • It is very similar to a dozen • We need to define a few terms before we proceed with the mole

Say Hello to the GAM, GMM, and the GFM • The Gram Atomic Mass (GAM) is the amount of an element with a mass in grams = to the element’s atomic mass. • The GAM of O = 15.999 g/mol • The Gram Formula Mass (GFM) is the amount of a substance (ionic) with a mass in grams = the substance’s formula mass. • The GFM of NaCl = 58.443 g/mol

  5. Say Hello to the GAM, GMM, and the GFM • The Gram Molecular Mass (GMM) is the amount of a molecular substance with a mass in grams = the substance’s molecular mass. • The GMM of SO2 = 64.064 g/mol
