  1. Status of ZDC Yasa & Michael for ZDC group, KU, Iowa, UIC 20th September 2008 • Integration close • Safe operation OK • Grounding Tolerable • Firmware Needs to be tested • Luminosity After HF • Software Started but lots to do • Lift fixture Working on final design

  2. DSS DCS HiVolt LoVolt S4F02 Integration HV GT signal LVDS Vertex 0.1 0.9 141ns - Laser QIE CCM RBX manager ZDC S2E13 S2C07 Tunnel RecHits LUT DQM Map HTR DCC S2F18 Lumi Server LHC Timing E+,E- HLX GCT S1E04 S2F07

  3. Safe Operation • After “technical inspection” in August we have covered all action items except for “High Voltage” signs in tunnel. • In addition we will install a safety ground between ZDC and TAN based on zener diodes. This will be done during shutdown. • Alain Cordonnier has installed DSS interlocks for low and high voltage. • Michael has submitted some procedures to Archana • Cables have official numbers that are listed in database

  4. Grounding • Layout was designed to minimize radiation load • Signal and HV cables connect S2E13 and tunnel • We had a “coffee meeting” with Laza, Magnus et al • Magnus would prefer that we not get HV and LV from S24F02 but rather keep everything at S2E13 • We would like to work on this over the winter shutdown. In the meantime Michael can write a simple procedure for disconnecting the ZDC if it is thought to be contaminating other detectors.

  5. Firmware • Drew Barden and John Jones have written firmware to great E+, E-, Multiplicity+ - and coincidence of + and - for Lumi • This still needs to be tested. • We still need LUTs to linearize ZDC based on parameters used in test beam. • Michael has started talking with Greg Landsberg and Gena Kukartsev and will try to finish this week

  6. Luminosity • ZDC E+ and E- should now be available to server. • Testing can start once Lumi group feels that the rest of the system is under control • Oleg Grachov will work with Princeton group on this when he comes in October. • ZDC, like HF, will be incorporated into lumi function manager so that it can be continuously providing lumi data.

  7. Software • From Cruzet4 Mayda, Steve found significant noise ~ 1-2GeV on pedestal. This is comparable to that seen in test beam. It is not from splitter box but probably from pickup on 208m of cable. • For beam splash events near ZDC, 10m!, was saturated but far one 290m from collimator saw nothing. • Urgent need now to set timing of ZDC wrt beam clock • We could start with dead reckoning and also look on scope. • Jason StJohn setting up ZDC DQM framework, Alexi Mestvirishvili will be looking at data • We are requesting that raw data also be stored offline • We need help on defining offline packages to make ZDC physics objects.

  8. Lift Fixture • Paul Debbins is finalizing design. We hope to have make a presentation to Austin & TS group early October. • We will also have to lift out BRAN. • Sarchophagus will be mostly marble. • Aiming to have this in for February.
