The purpose of this PowerPoint is to explain how to open a Google Earth tour from MyPISD.
First make sure you have downloaded Google Earth. To do that, go to Classroom Tools and double click the Google Earth Icon.
Sidebar • Once Google Earth opens, make sure you have the Sidebar on the left of your screen. • If you don’t have the Sidebar, click the View Sidebar button.
Make sure the Places section is open. • You may have to click the arrow next to the word Places to open it.
If you have any checks in the boxes under Places, uncheck them.
Open MyPISD and navigate to the PISD Curriculum Corner. • Look for the Google Earth Tours box, and click on the Google Earth tour you are wanting to view.
Click on the kmz file – a box will pop up. • Click on SAVE. • Save this file to a folder that your team can share. (You might save it on either the T Drive or the S Drive.)
Open Google Earth again. (You can do this by clicking on the Google Earth tab at the bottom of your screen to maximize it.) • Click on File : Open and navigate to the folder where you saved the kmz file. • Open the file.
Pause the tour at any time by clicking the Stop button on the bottom left hand corner of the screen. (If the slider bar is not visible, move your mouse arrow toward the bottom of your screen and it will pop up.) • This allows time to discuss what the students observe. • Continue the tour by clicking the Start button (arrow).
Once the tour is complete, close the tour by clicking the X.
This message will pop up. • Click Yes to save the tour to your Google Earth “My Places” folder. (This will enable you to use the tour again without having to go through MyPISD to view it.)
