Why Do WE Need Creativity ? • Competition • Customers demand dramatic breakthroughs • Fiscal • New technologies • The old way doesn’t “work” anymore
What is Creativity? • Being able to produce a lot of new ideas • Being able to break down an old way of doing things in order to take a fresh look at it • Being able to identify fresh ways of looking at things
What Type of Environment Nurtures Creativity? • Freedom from criticism – people can take risks without embarrassment • Constant sharing of ideas • Two way flow of communication so that ideas have a place to go • Respect for different “gifts” people bring to a situation • Humor is encouraged

How Can Creativity be Encouraged? • Respect yourself and others • Actively listen • Believe that everyone – including yourself- is fallible • Get out of your office! • Avoid “killer” phrases
How Can Creativity Have Positive, Tangible Results? • By being able to move creativity into innovation • Innovation is the process of selecting, combining, refining and turning the very best ideas into reality • Challenge is to efficiently generate as many good ideas as possible and efficiently convert them into products and services
