SEN Kent Local Offer: Direct FundingAll schools (including academies) receive direct funding to support children who have special educational needs. This enables them to make their own decisions about how best to put support in place and when. It should only be necessary for the authority to provide additional funding when the cost of individual support exceeds £6000 a year.
SEN Kent Local Offer: MCSKent has produced additional guidance for all schools (including academies as part of their SEN obligations) on meeting the needs of all learners: Mainstream Core Standards for all Learners.
Mandatory Cost ThresholdDirect funding to schools and academies includes notional SEN funding that enables schools to make provision for support arrangements up to £6000 per pupil
Mandatory Cost ThresholdEvidence will be required for:1. new referrals for SA2. evidence of use of budget for pupils with SSEN3. referrals to LA for top-up without SA
How will schools evidence Mandatory Cost Threshold spending?A fair, simple and transparent approach to describe, evaluate and cost interventionscan be supported through the use of documentation already in school

Statutory Assessment Pilot Update • Current pilot (Gravesham, Tonbridge & Malling, Swale) continues in term 1 • Term 2 – the pilot moves to ‘local’ decisions during LIFT meetings • All decision makers and note takers will be trained • End of term 2 – evaluate and plan for roll-out training to other Districts
Part-time timetables • Local Government Ombudsman cases have identified a systemic failure • Compensation awarded to families – recouped from schools • New guidance will be published
