Starting the College Search • Now is the time for juniors to start looking at colleges • Attend the college fair at VUJC on October 6th • Search the internet, college handbooks and meet with college reps. • Visit colleges of interest
College Visitations • Contact the admissions office two weeks in advance to set up the appointment • Contact Mrs. Werner for a College Leave Form (or print off of web site) and submit before the visit • Student must return a verification form on the day following the visit toMrs. Werner
What to expect on the visit • Meet with the office of admissions • Take a campus tour • Meet with someone in your planned academic major • May meet with the office of financial aid (private colleges usually) • Attend a class
Tests for Juniors/Seniors • PSAT – Wed, October 15th in a.m. for 10th & 11th • PSAT is $14.00 • SAT Reasoning Test and/or ACT – take during the spring of the junior year • SAT/ACT retakes no later than Dec. of senior year • ECA retest for some on Dec. 9th and 10th

Dual Credit Courses • All are offered through OCU • Min. SAT score of 1250 (3 sections) or • Min. ACT score of 18 • Must submit transcript with reg. forms • Cost $25 per credit hour • 21 Century Scholars must pay • Students on F/R Lunch are exempt from the fee • Deadline for first semester registrations will be Sept. 5 • Enrollment for full year courses in January • Enrollment process • Credit transfer
What is the difference between Dual Credit and AP credit????? • Dual credit may or may not be accepted at all colleges • AP credits are accepted at all colleges unconditionally • You cannot get AP credit and Dual credit in the same class

College Application Process What the parent does: • Discuss college options • Visit schools with your son/daughter • Help your son/daughter organize materials • Support them through the process What you do NOT do: • Complete the applications for your son/daughter
College Application Process Access College/University website. Apply on-line Access Parchment Request transcript to be sent to prospective colleges. Purdue, IU, IUPUI, and NCAA Clearinghouse require test scores to be sent directly from testing agency.
More on College Applications • Is counselor form/signature page needed? • Thanksgiving is recommended deadline for submitting applications • If letter of recommendation is needed, allow two (2) weeks • (forms on website)
Scholarships & Financial Aid • Not much for juniors to do except maintain grades • Scholarship & Financial Aid search starts in the senior year • Discover card scholarship is a national scholarship that juniors CAN apply for
Scholarships & Financial Aid • Check scholarships available from colleges • Check web site for new listings • Local packet will be given to seniors in January • FAFSA on the Web Worksheet will be available in December with March deadline
General Overview of the Junior Year • Take the PSAT in October • Take an SAT and/or ACT in the spring- Send scores directly to IU, Purdue, and IUPUI • Start investigating colleges and careers • Look at admission requirements • Maintain or improve grades • Meet with counselor in the spring for course selection for senior year • Visit colleges next summer
General Overview of the Senior Year • Individual meetings with all seniors Sept/Oct • Retake SAT/ACT if needed • Applications for admissions completed 1st semester • FAFSA in January • Scholarship packets 2nd semester • May 1st Decision Date • Contact OCU have transcripts sent to college that student will attend in the fall
