3. Starting the College Search Now is the time for juniors to start looking at colleges
Attend the college fair on September 27th .
Search the internet, college handbooks and viewbooks
Explore careers and interests at www.kudernavigator.com
Visit a college in the spring
Visit colleges of interest next summer
4. College Visitations Contact the admissions office two weeks in advance to set up the appointment
Contact Mrs. Hopkins for a College Leave Form (or print off of web site) and submit before the visit
Student must return a verification form on the day following the visit to Mrs. Hopkins
5. What to expect on the visit Meet with the office of admissions
Take a campus tour
Meet with someone in your planned academic major
May meet with the office of financial aid (private colleges usually)
Attend a class
6. Tests for Juniors/Seniors PSAT – Wed, October 13th in a.m. for 10th & 11th
PSAT is $13.00
SAT Reasoning Test and/or ACT – take during the spring of the junior year
SAT/ACT retakes no later than Dec. of senior year
ISTEP retest for some on Sept 14, 15, & 16

Discuss college options
Visit schools with your son/daughter
Help your son/daughter organize materials
Support them through the process
What you do NOT do:
Complete the applications for your son/daughter
10. College Application Process What the student does:
Watch the deadlines
Complete the applications
Apply to at least one “sure” college in terms of admission standards & cost
Apply online and request online transcript
- OR –
Turn in completed application to guidance office (MUST include addressed, stamped envelope)
Be neat and use ink if completing a paper application
11. College Application Process What the counselor does:
Completes counselor page and transcript online
- OR –
Completes the counselor section or page
Prepares the “official transcript”
Mails completed application with transcript to the college/university
12. More on College Applications Many colleges prefer on-line applications and transcripts
Is counselor form/signature page needed?
Thanksgiving is recommended deadline for submitting applications
If letter of recommendation is needed, allow two (2) weeks
