How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups/issues? By immy Murphy
Mystery genre • The film that related to our opening sequence was end game the scene ‘I love you 3000’- tony starks funeral speech. • This related through the emotion, the music we wanted and how he connected with his daughter, and how we wanted Stuart to relate to his son in our opening sequence.
Our opening sequence • We used similar techniques from end game scene ‘I love you 3000’ in the way we wanted Stuart to be very emotional and to connect with the audience. • In tony starks end of his funeral speech he says the words ‘I love you 3000’ similarly we got Stuart to say the words ‘I love you buddy’ for him to connect with the audience and create emotion within.
Convention- camera • In the scene ‘I love you 3000’ they used a very natural setting, being in the home and in the living room, with natural sun lighting. Similarly, to ours we got Stuart to film in the office of a home, and then placed his suicide video on the tv in the lounge for max (his son) to watch. • Close intimacy shots between tony stark and his daughter in the film, like ours In which there was shots shot between Stuart and max, to show that emotion and relationship.
Convention- sound • In the ‘I love you 3000’ scene there is a non-diegetic sound of music playing throughout to create this emotion and sense of vulnerability as tony stark has just died, we want to use a similar sound in ours, to represent the emotion and mystery to what has happened to the dad. It’s a slow and classical music which creates that emotional effect.
Convention-mis en scene • In the scene, tony stark is wearing very causal but smart clothes, similarly in our opening scene we had Stuart wearing casual-dad like clothing. • It's set in the living room of his house, which is like ours, Stuart's tape is filmed in the study, and then put on the tv in the lounge for max to watch. • It’s a relaxed and emotional setting.
Convention- editing • In the scene of ‘I love you 3000’ there is a lot of matching action shots taken, to show the emotion from the daughter and her face, but then also back to tony starks hologram. We also used this technique and had shots of stuart on the tv speaking, but then also back to max to see his emotion and reaction to this video.
My greatest creation is you- avengers 2 • This scene from avengers two ‘my greatest creation is you’ really related to our opening scene, in the way it is father talking to son, through technological resource. • It is also Howard stark talking to tony stark, after Howard has died, very similar to ours. • It ends with an emotional and impactful meaning like we did too- ‘I love you buddy.’
Convention-camera • In tony starks ‘my greatest creation is you’ there are a lot of close ups used, to show tony starks emotion and reaction to what his dad is saying. • Matching action is used in this a lot to show the contrast between how relaxed tony is compared to his well dressed, smart, up-tight dad. • In this scene there are a lot of shots of tony stark writing into a book a lot of mathematic equations. Similar to our opening scene we had max going through an old box, full of files, pocket watch, memory stick etc.
Convention-sound • In the ‘my greatest creation is you’ scene there is a non-diegetic sound of music playing throughout to create this emotion and dramatic climax of Howard stark talking all about how he has built his whole empire of work, and then the music changed to a dramatic climax in which Howard says the words ‘my greatest creation is you.’ • Like ours it is only the dad (Howard) speaking to the son, whilst the son just watches and listens.
Convention mis en scene- • Similar to ours this scene is filmed in his office, a comfortable relaxed space. • Tony stark is dressed very casually in a jumper and trousers, similar clothing to how we wanted our actors to dress. • It was filmed in a very dark room, with the only light being the screen howard is speaking on, we decided to go for compleltley different lighting in our opening scene.
