  2. What do I need to do to earn a high school diploma? • Pass all required courses • Have good attendance and behavior • Pass the CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) • Earn 230 credits

  3. How do you earn credits? • Each class you take is worth 5 credits per semester • Each class must be passed with an A, B, C or D • A Fail in a class gives you 0 credits. • Fall Semester 30 credits + Spring Semester 30 credits = 60 credits per school year. • 60 (credits) x 4 years (9th-12th) = 240 credits • REMEMBER YOU NEED 230 CREDITS TO GRADUATE!

  5. English(40 credits = 4 years) • 9th – 12th grade

  6. Social Studies(30 credits = 3 years) • World History A and B (10th grade) • US History A and B (11th grade) • Government/Economics (12th grade)

  7. Mathematics(20 credits = 2 years) • Algebra 1A and 1B • Algebra 2A and 2B • Geometry A and B

  8. Sciences(20 credits = 2 years) • Physical Science ( 1 year) • ICS Science 1A and 1B • Chemistry A and B • Biological Science (1 year) • Biology A and B

  9. Physical Education/Sports(20 credits = 2 years) • MUST be taken in the 9TH and 10th grade. • The Fitness Exam will be given spring semester and MUST be passed.

  10. Life Skills/AVID( 5 credits = 1 semester) • 1st semester course

  11. Health(5 credits = 1 semester) • 2nd semester course

  12. Fine Art(10 credits = 1 year) • Drama • Photo • Ceramics • Painting • Drawing • Intro. to Art • Art History • Dance

  13. Technical Art(10 credits = 1 year) • Computer Operations • Computer Repair • Desktop Publishing • Floral Design • Baker Fundamentals • Wood Shop • Auto Body/Mechanics • Stage Crew • Play Production

  14. Electives(7 classes = 70 credits) • If you plan to attend a four-year University, speak to your 10th grade counselor to select the proper A-G courses. • Examples: Speech, Additional years of P.E. (Sports), AP courses, Foreign Language (Spanish/French), Advanced Math and Science courses

  16. IMPORTANT REMINDERS • If you FAIL a class during the regular semester, you can NOT repeat that class during the regular school year. • All FAILED classes MUST be repeated during summer school or, Adult School to graduate on time (2013).

  17. How many credits do I need in order to move to the next grade? • 10th grade = 55 credits • 11th grade = 110 credits • 12th grade = 170 credits • Graduation = 230

  18. College is Possible… • You can meet college requirements while meeting high school requirements. • You must earn a “C” or higher to apply to a University. Aim for “A’s” • You must challenge yourself by taking advance courses. • YOU CAN DO IT!
