  3. Medical Careers • Prepare for future medical career • Take Medical Terminology, taught by a Montgomery College professor • Complete the Certified Nursing (CNA) program • Intern at a local rehabilitation center and the National Naval Medical Center

  4. Transportation Technology Cluster Students restore and sell approximately fifty cars per year as a part of their automotive education.

  5. The Montgomery County Student Automotive Trades Foundation makes it possible for students to operate a fully licensed used car dealership.

  6. Foundations of Automotive Technologies Students learn beginning procedures for auto body repair and basic auto mechanics.

  7. Auto Technology Students learn to diagnose and repair automobiles in an ASE Certification format.

  8. Auto Body Repair Technology Students learn professional auto body repair procedures and techniques including painting.

  9. Construction and Development Cluster The Construction Trades Foundation makes it possible for students to build and sell a large house every year.

  11. Foundations of Building & Construction Technologies Students in this one semester class begin to develop skills in a variety of construction areas. Upon completion of the class, students choose one of the construction programs as their focus.

Print Technologies & Digital Graphics • Basic & Advanced skills for entering the commercial printing, advertising, and digital arts fields • PrintED Nationally Certified program • Adobe Creative Suites: drawing, design and layout software on MAC computers (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) • Industry-standard training in graphic design, digital file prep, advertising, screen printing and digital photography Student Work

  22. Cosmetology • Three year program • Grade 10 entrance • Leads to taking the Maryland State Cosmetology Exam for State Licensing • Chemistry, anatomy, bacteriology, sanitation • Student-run salon

  23. Nail Technology • One year classroom program plus semester of on-the-job training • Leads to taking the Maryland State Exam for Nails and State Licensing • Must be 17 years old to take State Exam

  24. Course Structure and Credits • Thomas Edison courses are three periods long. • Students earn one and one-half credits per semester. • Some courses offer Student Service Learning (SSL) hours. • All courses (except Interior Design) satisfy the MCPS program completer requirement for graduation.

  25. Who is eligible to attend? • All students must be enrolled in MCPS. • Most students enter in Grades 11 and/or 12. • Some courses are open to students in Grade 10.

  31. Over 70% enter college or technical schools after high school; most major in careers related to their Thomas Edison program. The majority of Edison students continue to college or technical schools.

  32. Does Thomas Edison have a work experience and job placement program? Assistance with employability skills and job placement is provided for all students. YES!

  33. Is transportation provided? MCPS provides bus transportation to and from the home school. AM session 7:45-10:15 PM session 11:00-1:30 Students may provide their own transportation.
