  2. Science Versus Religion • In essence, they really are NOT contradictory • People have made them so

  3. Battling the Status Quo • I have a two-fold purpose tonight: 1. Clear up some misinformation 2. Provide tools to teach others • Let’s look at 5 Lies about Science taught in today’s schools, universities, and in the media

  4. Terms • Science – a method for looking at the world around us in a specific way • Hypothesis – explanation for why things are the way they are • Theory – general explanation • Law – a description of something that is observed (example: Law of Gravity)

  5. Terms continued • Evolution – everything that exists came from the Big Bang, chance occurences, random mutation, natural selection • Macroevolution - matter coming from energy, life coming from nonliving things, species changing into new species • Microevolution – random mutations and natural selection (survival of the fittest) • Creationism – God created the universe

  6. Lie #1 Science and evolution are the same thing • (if you don’t believe in evolution then you don’t believe in science) • The Truth: They are not the same! • Science is a wonderful tool to understand the world • Genesis 1:27-29 • Genesis 4:22 • Genesis 9:20-21 • Daniel 3:19

  7. Lie #2 DNA and evolution are the same thing • (In order to understand DNA and the genetic code, you have to understand and believe in evolution) • Truth: they are not the same! • Psalm 139:14-17 • Gen. 1:11-13, 20-25

  8. Lie #3 One cannot observe evidence of intelligence in nature • The Truth: Yes, you can! • Physical features vs. human features • Psalm 19:1-6 • Psalm 8 • Romans 1:25

The Plan of Salvation • Hear the Word (Rm. 10:17) • Believe in Jesus (Jn. 1:12) • Repent of Sins (II Cor. 7:9-10) • Confess Faith in Christ (Mt. 10:32) • Be Baptized in Water (Rm. 6:3-4) • Continue in God’s Grace (Ac. 13:43) • If you err as a Christian: Repent & Pray God for Forgiveness (Ac. 8:22)
