  2. Main Characters

  3. Setting The setting takes place in the mid 1800’s in an orphanage Rhode Island California Plot Freedom dies Hayward gets adopted Charlotte runs away from the orphanage She gets kicked in the eye by a horse She goes blind Story Elements

  4. Three Conflicts • Charlotte’s parents dies when she is a baby • She got kicked by a horse in the eye • She goes blind

  5. Both were orphans Liked Freedom Both hated William Liked Vern Both wanted to own a ranch with a sign Hayward got adopted Charlotte ran away from the orphanage Hayward slept in a bed while Charlotte slept in a loft Charlotte knew Ebenezer but for Hay it was his first time meeting him Charlotte and Hayward

  6. Favorite Part • My favorite part is when Charlotte votes. I like that part because she is the first women to vote. She thinks in her mind will my one vote count for anything. I like this scene because after all those years of dressing like a boy she votes like a women.

  7. Charlotte was an orphan in a boy’s orphanage. She had three friends Vern, Hay, and Freedom. She loved horses and wanted to own a ranch. Charlotte is a great women hero. Hay is very brave to speak up for Charlotte. Freedom was an incredible horse and should not have died. Facts and Opinions

  8. Book Recommendation • This book is about a remarkable women hero and her life. The thing I would change is her best friend and her did not by one point like each other. How could they not like each other when they had been friends at a small age?! This book inspires young girls and women that we are as equal as men.
