How to Apply • Apply online and pay the fee • Visit you.ubc.ca to apply • Always use your official name (as it appears on his/her official documents i.e. birth certificate, passport etc.); • Pay the application fee. • Pay when you apply or • Pay after you have submitted your application by logging into the Student Service Centre and selecting “my Financial Account” • N.B. Applications will not be processed until the application fee has been received by UBC

  4. How to Apply cont’d 2. Complete the Housing application The deadline is May 1st, 2011 the sooner you apply for housing the better, make sure to pick the right campus (UBC Vancouver); 3. Receive student number and email acknowledgement • After submitting • You will instantly receive a UBC student number to confirm receipt of your application; • You will receive an acknowledgment letter confirming your UBC number and listing the documents needed in order to process your file; • Please note: the email acknowledgement is official – print it and keep for your records

  6. Please note that all of UBC correspondence to you is primarily done via email, so make sure your email address is always up-to-date and do check it regularly.

  7. You can access your Student Service Centre with you CWL account – here is where you can check your application status and where you can find all of the correspondence UBC sent you.

  8. Housing application deadline is May 1st, 2011

Self-assessment: “Am I admissible?” • Do you have: • An overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 on a point 4.0 grading scale or of at least 60% • Your GPA will be calculated on the most recent 30 credits (roughly 10 three months courses) you have completed; • Do you satisfy the English Language Admission Standard (ELAS)?

  10. English Language Requirement UBC accepts 9 different tests of English language proficiency that evaluate skills in listening, reading, speaking and writing. The most commonly submitted are the Test of English as a Foreign-Language (TOEFL) and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). • TOEFL • UBC institution code is 0965 • Internet-based test: overall 90/120 • minimum part score 21 (writing and speaking) and 22 (reading and Listening) • IELTS • Minimum score: an average of 6.5 with no part less than 6.0 Please note that UBC will accept test results taken no more than two years before you apply

  11. When is the application due? Applications have to be submitted by February 28th, 2011 When documents are considered official? • Official Transcripts have to be sent directly by your institution • English Proficiency test scores have to be sent directly by the testing agency

After you apply • As soon as your file is complete • The application fee is paid; • All of the required official Documents have been received by UBC Admissions; • Proof of ELAS satisfaction • UBC will evaluate your admissibility. If you are admissible you will receive an offer to the program of your choice at UBC

After you apply (cont’d) • Once you have received the UBC offer you will need to apply for a Canadian Study Permit – be sure to start the process as soon as you receive the offer but only after you have received it. • This involves: • completing and application • Paying an fee • Submitting relevant documents • Official letter of acceptance from UBC • Proof of sufficient funds for tuition and living costs When & which courses? When: You will receive an email from UBC telling you on what day and at what time you will be able to register. In order to register on that day you will have to accept UBC offer through the Student Service Centre and pay CDN $ 500 for the registration deposit; Which: You should send me all of the courses that you have completed with a short description of what the course covered and I, together with your program director, will work on your UBC study plan;
