  5. Focus Questions? How do the two texts (poem and short story) approach similar themes? How does the understanding of vocabulary in the text help the reader to understand theme?

  7. Group Assignment • Read the stanza or lines assigned to your group. • Define any words or phrases you do not know or understand. • Analyze your part of the poem • What theme is developed in your part of the poem?

  8. Example: • “loosing theirs” is figurative language to say that people seem to be acting in a strange or unusual manner. • If is conditional . It usually comes in a cause and effect statement. Keep your head – remain calm in chaos and not listen to unwarranted blame or hate… • Some sort of directions – Have faith in yourself? • If you can keep your head when all about you are loosing theirs and blaming it on you

Your pictures should show events from Hatchet that support the same theme. • For example, in the poem “If” Kipling states that • Keeping and remaining calm is a characteristic of becoming a man. • This characteristic is obvious when Brian….. Our picture shows this scene with the words “If you can keep your head when all about you are loosing theirs and blaming it on you…. “
